The sign of the redshift difference for pairs of Abell galaxy clusters is independent of the sign of the richness difference. The average redshift difference between the richer and poorer clusters in a pair is zero km/s to within 1 sigma uncertainty. This result from a sample of 84 close pairs of Abell clusters and several subsamples supersedes and contradicts a previous result by Nottale (1976) based on fewer and more heterogeneous pairs.
