Low resolution Hα spectroscopic observations of VW Cep performed in July and August 1993 at Catania Astrophysical Observatory are reported. A variable Hα emission from the secondary cooler component has been found to be correlated with the presence of photospheric spots. The secondary star shows an asymmetrical Hα profile with blue-shifted absorption excess between the orbital phase 0.38 and 0.54, and a red-shifted excess from 0.62 to 0.95. It is suggested that the asymmetry is due to the absorption effect of mass flow from the secondary component, through the inner lagrangian point.
