Evidence is presented which shows that the nominal 164-day period in the wavelengths of the moving lines in SS 433 has been decreasing at the rate of -0.010 + or - 0.002. An ephemeris is provided for the moving lines over the 1981 observing season which assumes the stated rate of decrease. It is concluded that the period has been decreasing by about 1% for several years, implying a lifetime value as short as 40 years. The period change is of consequence for the models proposed for this complex system.
