Corrections have been computed for the analysis of typical rocks in the electron probe, using different fusion techniques and different instrumental conditions. The factors influencing the linearity of calibration plots are investigated. It is found that the lanthanum used in lithium tetraborate fusions for X-ray fluorescence analysis should preferably be omitted in the preparation of glasses for electron probe analysis.
