Attention is given to a model that calculates O/B star numbers within a fixed volume of interstellar space, in order to investigate the evolution of the number of O- and B-type stars. This model, whose assumptions and limitations are discussed, takes the influence of stellar winds and star formation near shocks in the interstellar medium into account and indicates that periodic behavior leads to a determinate mathematical representation of the problem.
