The interaction between the solar wind and the interstellar gas is
modeled by a pair of shock waves. The influence of this interaction upon
the penetration of neutral H atoms into the solar system is examined.
The bearing of the effects considered on the interpretation of
Lyman-alpha scattering data is discussed.
