Background Noise, Charge Coupled Devices, Cosmic Rays, Photoelectrons, Electron Distribution, Muons, Silicon Junctions, Substrates

The recently reported detection of cosmic rays by charge coupled devices
(CCD's) was modelled as a result of cosmic-ray muons and electrons
leaving ionization trails in the silicon substrate. The event rate and
electron number distribution per event are calculated and shown to agree
with measured values.
