Scientific paper

The paper examines the regular acceleration of cosmic rays on shock fronts, which is defined as the combination of first order Fermi acceleration in compressed plasma flow and particle scattering on magnetic field fluctuations. The number of particles that can be accelerated on shock fronts in supernova shells in the Galaxy is calculated as a function of the diffusion coefficient. Radio-astronomical observations indicate that cosmic ray propagation in the Galaxy is diffusive in character.
