The natural radiative lifetime of the y3F0 state of Ti was determined to be 23±2 nsec by LIF. Ti atoms were excited at 396 nm and emission was observed at 735 nm. The quenching cross sections for the y3F0 state were determined to be 1.9×10-16 and 1.1×10-15cm2 for He and Ar, respectively. In addition, quantitative atomic absorption measurements of gas-phase Ti atoms were made in a thermal evaporation cell and compared with concentrations calculated from a simple mathematical model.
