Comets, Hale-Bopp, Radial Profiles
Scientific paper
First FIR maps of comet Hale-Bopp, at 60 and 160 μm. are presented and radial profiles are deduced from these maps and seem to agree with a ρ-1 radial intensity profile. Furthermore, aperture photometry at the maximum of thermal emission, at 12.8, 16 and 25 μm was performed and radial profiles derived. These profiles are also compatible with ρ-1 intensity profiles. There seems to be no dependence of the profile on the wavelength nor on the heliocentric distance of the observation. Contributions of different dust particle distributions need to be modeled.
