Observations of Herbig-Haro object 24 with a new spectropolarimeter confirm that the characteristic emission-line spectra of H-H objects are produced in situ. The outflowing wind which shock-heats the H-H 24 knots arises in a T Tauri-like star embedded in the associated dark cloud. This star is also the source of the H-H optical continuum, which becomes strongly polarized when scattered off dust in the knots.
