The X-ray variability of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 6814 is investigated in the context of stochastic dynamics applied to the pair production instability model of Moskalik & Sikora (1986). The quasi-periodicity present in the light curve can be easily reproduced and quite naturally accounted for by assuming that the accretion rate undergoes random time variations. Although some features of time variability, like the red-noise component, are not explained within our simplified physical picture, the present results indicate that stochastic dynamics could be a powerful tool in constructing viable models for the emitting region of active galactic nuclei.
