I review recent numerical work designed to account for the origin of galaxy morphologies and scaling laws within the context of hierarchical galaxy formation scenarios. In particular, I address briefly the transient morphology of galaxies, the cosmological origin of scaling laws relating the size, velocity and luminosity of galaxy disks, as well as the successes and shortcomings of current numerical models in reproducing these fundamental observations.
