A defining parameter of any barred galaxy is the pattern speed of its bar. However, most determinations of this crucial parameter have relied on indirect measurements. The only non-model dependent technique, the Tremaine & Weinberg method, has so far received limited attention. We present an application of this technique to four barred galaxies. The results are consistent with bars being fast rotators. The lack of slow bars suggests that barred galaxies cannot have centrally concentrated dark halos.
