It has been suggested (Thielheim, 1980) that trailing spiral density waves in stellar disks may be produced as a response to the increase with time of a central elongated mass distribution rotating at a constant angular velocity in the center of a stellar disk. The present paper describes a simple procedure for estimating the shape of the density response in a stellar disk for given structures of the background and perturbing gravitational fields. The procedure is based on the first-order epicyclic and adiabatic approximation.
