RXTE obtained a brief (<1 ks) observation of the black hole transient GX 339-4 after the announcement of new activity from this source by MAXI (Yamaoka et al., ATEL#2380). The observation, which started at 2010 Jan. 12, 11.7 h UT, showed that the source is in the hard state. The PCA energy spectrum can be described as an absorbed power-law with a photon index of 1.50 ± 0.03, and the absorbed 3-25 keV flux is 1.2e-9 ergs/cm2/s.
