The YORP torque acting on irregularly shaped small asteroids (< 1 km) due to thermal re-radiation is an important spin-altering mechanism (Rubincam 2001). This YORP torque could cause some (but not all) small asteroids to end up as rotationally excited objects. A robust assessment of the likelihood of rotational excitation can also be used to infer about the nature of the structural properties of small asteroids. I will discuss these and other related results.
