The evolution of disk galaxies is examined through studies of the SO and the spiral systems using sensitive panoramic detectors for the analysis of digitized imagery. Three approaches for testing models of galaxy evolutions are considered. The first focuses on examining samples of galaxies in nearby clusters, the second involves comparing the characteristics of nearby galaxies with those of the most distant galaxies, and the third is concentrating on searching for nearby galaxies that give signs of being younger than typical nearby systems. It is shown that the evolving of a spiral galaxy into a smooth disk without spiral arms is contingent upon its environment, with the system most likely to do so belonging to a rich cluster.
