The year 2009 has been designated as the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) to highlight the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei. Activities are being designed and implemented to bring the wonder of the cosmos and our place in the Universe to audiences of many backgrounds - from the general public to the interested graduate student. I will identify several opportunities and low-cost activities that planetary scientists can create and share from their own experiences with local audiences. In addition, I shall identify activities that planetary scientists can participate and prepare to enable and enhance the educational and outreach efforts of the DPS.
