In 2009, it will be equinox on Jupiter. This event occurs only every six years and phenomena such as eclipses of the satellites by the planet and mutual occultations and eclipses between the satellites will occur and will be easily observable even with very small telescopes.
We propose a worldwide campaign of observations gathering professional and amateur astronomers and also students and pupils interested in observational astronomy. The observations are easy to make and will provide valuable data in the field of planetary sciences, improving our knowledge of the physics and dynamics of the Galilean satellites preparing the next space missions to the Jovian system. The results will be published in an international journal at the end of the campaign.
