We report observations of the extrasolar planet HD 209458b, which were obtained as part of a search for excited water bands from the planet. Transit spectroscopy was performed on 2002 Aug 19 and 26 and Sep 2 using the NASA IRTF with SpeX instrument. Cross-dispersed spectra in the near-infrared were reduced, optimally extracted and analyzed. We will present the data, sensitivity tests and discuss implications for atmospheric modeling of HD 209458b.
