The problem of particle acceleration by MHD shock waves in various astrophysical objects is solved for a number of simplified one-dimensional cases. The formation of an accelerated-particle spectrum, including a power-law spectrum weakly dependent on the specifics of the acceleration, in interplanetary space and in supernova remnants is considered. Some possible manifestations of this particle-acceleration mechanism in galactic and extragalactic radio sources are discussed
