The evolution of a beam of fast electrons injected into the corona from a solar flare region is analyzed. The beam excites Langmuir waves (plasmons) which are transformed to type III radio bursts. The retardation of plasmons with respect to the unsteady beam in a nonhomogeneous coronal plasma permits consideration of the steady part of the beam as free dispersion. Various models of unsteady injection are discussed for quasi-equilibrium (exponential) and nonequilibrium (power) energy electron spectra in the sources. Source properties, free dispersion with unsteady heating, free dispersion of a nonequilibrium beam are considered. The results are found to agree with satellite measurements.
