A search for optical pulsations from 4U 0900-40 (HD 77581) was made in 1977-1978 using H-beta interference filters. No pulsations were detected above 0.001 of the observed flux. This contrasts with Steiner's detection of pulsations at the 2 percent level. Ariel 5 data covering both the present observations and Steiner's show that X-ray variability does not support this discrepancy.
