Isophotic contour maps derived from blue plates confirm the change in position angle as a function of distance from the center of M31 in the red region reported by Peterson, Ford, and Rubin (1977). The techniques used for M31 were then applied to a study of M51, for which similar results were obtained for the nuclear region. The spiral arms of M51 were traced for an additional half turn near the center of the galaxy.
