The consequences of an explosion in a galactic nucleus are studied by numerically solving the equations of motion of gas in the perturbed galaxy. It is assumed that during the explosion, gas is expelled from the nucleus in two opposite directions. The ensuing flow in the galaxy's disk shows, as expected, the presence of rarefaction and shock waves, strong noncircular motions, and transient spiral arms. Within two or three galactic years, differential rotation obliterates these structures almost entirely. Comparison is made between some of these models and the galaxies NGC 4258 and NGC 3310.
