The interpretation of the microlensing experiments towards the LMC still remains controversial. While white dwarfs have been proposed as ideal candidates to explain these results and, hence, to contribute significantly to the mass of the dark halo of the Milky Way, there are also several constraints on the role played by white dwarfs. For instance, non-standard log-normal initial mass functions are inconsistent with existing data and moreover they overproduce white dwarfs when compared with the different microlensing experiments. In this study we focus on spatially varying initial mass functions. We show that these mass functions are also inconsistent with existing data.
