The key to find genuine `unabsorbed Seyfert 2s', excluding variability issues, is to perform simultaneous X-ray and optical spectroscopy. A campaign of simultaneous X-ray and optical observations of unabsorbed Seyfert 2s has already proved successful in previous XMM-Newton AOs, leading to the discovery of the first unambiguous object of this new class (NGC3147: Bianchi et al., 2008). With the current proposal, we want to test completely different luminosity regimes, observing with XMM-Newton two unabsorbed Seyfert 2 candidates, Mrk273x and NGC4698. As already successfully done for the other targets allocated in previous AOs to this program, we will organize simultaneous optical observations with ground-based observatories.
