We propose a 40ks XMM-Newton observation to detect a fossil X-ray jet in the microquasar GRS 1915+105 during its quiescent state, should its current 17-year-long outburst end during the next observation period. This system has never been observed in quiescence. A fossil arcmin-scale X-ray jet has been detected with XMM-Newton in the black hole candidate 4U 1755-33 when in quiescence, after it has been bright for ~25 years: this makes GRS 1915+105 the best candidate to detect a fossil jet in another source, and to test mechanisms for the jet production. In addition, GRS 1915+105 properties suggest that its X-ray flux would be rather high, allowing a measurement of the spectrum and a test of models for quiescent emission in black-hole binaries.
