Together with industry, academia and other NASA centers, TPF is conducting pre-Phase-A studies of methods of discovery and characterization of terrestrial exoplanets with a large dedicated spaceborne coronagraphic instrument. Preliminary characteristics of the mission, of the observational constraints, and of the instrument, are described. We will address key enabling technology, and describe an implementation capable of meeting minimum science requirements. We will also outline technology drivers and options for reaching rich TPF science objectives.
