As a service to the astronomical community, Fred Chaffee and Team Keck joined with collaborators at UH-IfA, UCSC, and UC Berkeley to obtain DEIMOS spectra for nearly 2000 of the roughly 2700 objects in the GOODS-North field. The GOODS (Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey) program is a 320-square arcminute imaging survey in two fields (GOODS-North and GOODS-South). These fields are being imaged extensively by HST (using ACS), Chandra, XMM-Newton, and SIRTF, but redshift information is required to interpret fully the imaging information from these orbiting observatories. Our DEIMOS survey of the northern field provides spectra for most objects to R<24.3, with nominal wavelength coverage of 4500-9500 Angstroms and spectral resolution of 4.6 Angstroms. Since we applied no color selection in defining the sample, our 1400 targets with secure redshifts include galaxies, stars, and AGN out to z > 3.5. Our survey is complemented by the Cowie et al. DEIMOS survey of an additional 600 objects in the GOODS-North region and a sample of fainter targets observed by Gemini+GMOS. The final redshift catalog plus the raw and reduced 1-D and 2-D spectra are being made freely available via our Web site, providing researchers with the ability to study large-scale structure, galaxy dynamics, and abundances for this exquisite sample of intermediate- and high-redshift targets in the GOODS-North field.
