Measurements have been made of the optical continuum polarization of 19 Seyfert galaxies. The polarization of nine of these has also been observed at H-alpha; for six of these the emission-line polarization is at least as high as in the adjacent continuum, suggesting that a scattering mechanism produces the polarization. For Seyfert galaxies for which this is the case, there is a strong tendency for the electric vector of the polarization to be aligned with the major axis of the galaxy, indicating that the symmetry of the scattering geometry is related to the large-scale structure of the galaxy. However, the few objects in which the emission-line polarization is low appear not to show any preferred alignment. The alignments of radio structure with various observables are also considered. Whether or not specific alignments are found depends generally on the definition of the sample being studied.
