The DEEP2 Redshift Survey, a three-year project to obtain spectra of > 50,000 galaxies at z>0.7 with the new DEIMOS spectrograph at the Keck Observatory, is more than one-third complete. We now have sufficient data to assess the effects of our color-based redshift preselection and to predict the general characteristics of the final DEEP2 dataset. In this talk, I will summarize the nature of the survey sample and describe the principal selection effects to be aware of. This talk will provide some basic background information for other DEEP2 talks.
