The principal results are given of the spectroscopic observations of the recurrent nova U Sco carried out at Asiago eight and nine days after the maximum of its 1987 outburst. The spectra show emission lines of H, He II, N III and other ions. In spite of the very high degree of excitation, they do not show any traces of forbidden lines. A comparison to the spectra on the outburst in 1979 is given. Some comments follow.
