Elemental abundances of the superficially normal late B-type and early A-type stars Merak, pi Dra and kappa Cep are derived consistent with previous studies of this series using spectrograms obtained with a Reticon detector. The derived abundances of both Merak and pi Dra indicate that they are metallic-lined stars, which confirms this classification by other investigators, while kappa Cep has derived abundances which are nearly solar. The later star was discovered to be a single-lined spectroscopic binary.
