A definition for the energy-momentum tensor ℑ of a finite body is
given; this utilizes Synge's parallel propagator and an invariant
spatial volume element. From ℑ the massenergy invariant of the
body, mathfrak{M}, is obtained. A new interpretation of the constantM in
Schwarzschild's exterior solution is given.
