The behavior of the variable star V 1057 Cyg, which increased its brightness during an interval of a few months by almost six stellar magnitudes, is similar to that of the star FU Ori in 1936/37. It is known that V 1057 Cyg was a T Tauri star before the outburst. An analysis of the characteristics of the outburst of V 1057 Cyg provides, therefore, important information for a study of T Tauri stars and the theory of stellar development. Attention is given to details concerning the discovery of V 1057 Cyg, its study, the behavior of V 1057 Cyg before the outburst, models of the photosphere, infrared observations, the stellar mass, and an interpretation of the observed phenomena
