Integrated photometry of the globular cluster system NGC 1399 was obtained with the CTIO 4-m prime focus CCD. The observations include about 2000 clusters and extend to V = 24.5. Corrections for incompleteness, background, and systematic photometric error are made and the luminosity function is derived. The luminosity function shows a turnover at T(1) = 23.0 + or - 0.15, or V = 23.45 + or - 0.16. The results are used to study the distance of the system. Also, abundances for about 100 clusters are derived from the system's integrated, reddening-free abundance index. The clusters show a mean metallicity of Fe/H = -1.0, with a broad, flattened abundance distribution.
