The detection of Ca II H and K absorption lines attributed to an intervening galaxy in the spectrum of the quasar 0446-208 is reported. Intermediate dispersion observations were obtained of the region containing the quasar and an intervening disk galaxy situated 13 arcsec from the quasar in the spectral regions 3700-4700 and 3400-4400 A. Lines observed in the quasar spectrum at wavelengths of 4159.6 and 4233.5 A are identified with Ca II K and H absorption lines, respectively, at a redshift of 0.0666, which is similar to that of the nuclear region of the galaxy 13 arcsec away (0.0669). The column density of this absorption is calculated to be 11 (+5 or -3) x 10 to the 12th/sq cm, with a Doppler width of 90 + or - 20 km/sec. Direct imaging and spectra indicate that the galaxy is a probable S0 system. The observations tend to support the disk origin of the galactic absorption, although halo absorption cannot be ruled out, and are consistent with the view that quasar absorption lines may originate in intervening galaxies.
