A numerical study was carried out to examine the evolution and final steady states of a series of model stellar disks consisting of 200 interacting particles. In the final state of each model, the ratio t of the energy of mean motion in the disk to twice the kinetic energy of the particles varied in the range 0.18-0.22. Models of relatively moderate central concentration have large values of t. The experiment yields a radial-velocity dispersion for the particles that is significantly greater than that predicted by the Toomre criterion (1964), but it is almost equal to the dispersion inferred from Morozov's (1980) modified stability criterion.
