A radial velocity study is presented of both the emission and absorption lines in the eclipsing Wolf-Rayet binary. The mass ratio is 2.3, and the minimum masses are 5 solar masses for the WN5 star and 12 solar masses for the O-type companion, which appears to be approximately of the O8 type or earlier. The W-R star fills its Roche lobe, and this may be true of the O star. The occurrence of an eclipse requires an inclination greater than approximately 50 deg and restricts the range of masses to 5-12 solar masses (WN star) and 12-27 solar masses (O star). The study gives no evidence of duplicity regarding the HD 9974. The presence of hydrogen in the emission-line spectrum and the approximately 100 km/s blueshift of the absorption lines suggest that the absorption spectrum is intrinsic to the W-R star itself. HD 9974 is compared with the other two known galactic WN3 stars, HD 104994 and HD 211564. Although HD 9974 has the weakest emission-line spectrum, it contains the most hydrogen.
