Measures were made from scans of objective-prism spectra of more than 1000 stars on four plates using a PDS microdensitometer. The plates are all of a single star field and were taken with the CTIO Schmidt telescope. They have been measured by hand in the course of the objective-prism radial velocity survey of CIDA. Reductions of the measures were made in order to determine whether this very rapid machine can be used to obtain positions of spectral lines with no loss of precision when compared to the measures made by hand. Results of the reduction show that the PDS measures can be used to obtain radial velocities as accurately as the hand measures. In addition, photometric parameters are computed which allow the determination of photographic blue magnitudes, color indices, and quantitative spectral classifications. The ease and rapidity of obtaining the scans indicate that many large-scale studies of galactic structure and kinematics are practical as well as possible.
