Cosmology: Inflationary Universe

The Jeans instability criterium is generalized to a coherent scalar field using a quantum approach. A critical analysis of previous works about this matter is performed. The cosmological evolution of the Jeans mass during the dustlike and radiationlike matter-dominated phases of a Friedmann universe is obtained. A gauge-invariant approach is used to apply the results to inflationary models.
