Pulsars and magnetars are among the most powerful compact objects in the stellar mass range observed in the Milky Way. The presence of a strong magnetic field in these classes of neutron stars is a powerful anisotropizing agent. Accordingly, the inherently anisotropic environs of their magnetospheres and atmospheres seeds strongly polarized X-ray emission, whose signatures should be observable with GEMS and future polarimetry initiatives. This talk summarizes some of the expectations for polarization from non-thermal emission processes in pulsar magnetospheres. These include curvature and synchrotron emission, and highlight how phase-resolved polarimetry provides insights into the pulsar emission process and geometry.
