The recent observations of bright AGNs with the reflection grating abroad Chandra and XMM, have shown X-ray absorption lines of highly ionized spices such as OVII and OVIII at about zero redshift. However the location of the absorbing gas remains a puzzle, whether it belongs to the Milky Way Halo or the part of medium in the Local Group. To constrain the model of origin of the absorbing gas, we conduct the survey of O VII and O VIII absorption lines using archival Chandra grating observations of about 40 bright AGNs. From an empirical and uniform analysis, we present measurements of the O VII and O VIII lines equivalent width and the inferred ion column densities. Further we compare the measured ion column densities with the X-ray emission line intensities to study the properties of the absorbing gas.
