Earth Rotation: Variations, Earth Atmosphere: Angular Momentum

Scientific paper

Using the observational data of the Earth's rotation rate and atmospheric angular momentum, the high-frequency oscillations with periods between 40 and 90 days are analysed, and their variations with time as well as the spatial pattern of fluctuations in the atmospheric angular momentum versus latitude are given. The results show that the contributions to high-frequency oscillations in the atmospheric angular momentum mainly come from regions of medial-low latitude in the northern and southern hemispheres, that the high-frequency oscillations in the length-of-day and atmospheric angular momentum display a multi-peak phenomenon, and that their amplitudes and periods are unstable.
