A new speckle interferometric tool is presented for seeing diagnosis and improved seeing calibration. It provides a new seeing criterion. The comparability of the seeing conditions for object and reference star can be ascertained in a more reliable manner than by the spectral ratio technique. The results shown refer to one-dimensional near-infrared speckle scans which have been observed with the 3.5-m telescope on Calar Alto.
