The effect of the auroral ring on the polarization of the solar corona during the solar eclipse of March 29, 2006 is studied. The angle and degree of polarization for emission arising from the combination of two partially polarized components is calculated. The emission of each component is described in terms of the Stokes parameters, and the corresponding parameters added. The position angle and degree of polarization are found for all cases realized in observations of the polarized corona with polarizing filter positions of 0°, 60°, 120° and 0°, 45°, and 90°. These calculations indicate that singular polarization points (saddles with index -1/2) arise at a distance of about 1R&sun; from the limb. A model for the total emission of the corona is constructed, which is used to calculate deviations of the polarization plane from the tangential direction (with respect to the limb).
