Galilean Satellites: Eclipses, Galilean Satellites: Ephemerides

Scientific paper

The A.L.P.O. Jupiter Section received 407 visual timings of the eclipses of Jupiter's Galilean satellites Io, Europa, and Ganymede from 45 observers for the 1994/95 apparition (Callisto underwent no eclipses during this apparition). For each satellite, eclipse visual disappearance and reappearance timings were adjusted for telescope aperture and were then combined for comparison with the JPL's "E-2" Ephemeris. Io was found to differ significantly in position from the E-2 Ephemeris, being 6.1±2.6 sec "early" in its orbital position, while Europa and Ganymede did not differ significantly from the E-2 Ephemeris.
