The spiralling-in of a black dwarf ("planet") inside the envelope of a red giant is studied. The calculation involves both the interaction of the black dwarf with the envelope and the evolution of the giant. The structural changes induced in the giant by an energy deposition and mass ablation are followed using a fully evolutionary code. The authors find that a black dwarf of an initial mass of 0.02 M_sun; is transformed into a 0.14 M_sun; (stellar) binary companion to the red giant's core. This process could be important for the formation of low mass cataclysmic binaries.
